INTRO

Burundi, Ruiygy Province.
Muwhazi's health centre is one the seven health centres supported by MSF in this area. Malaria is endemic here and people suffer from it all year long. But it is rainy season, and even more patients arriving at the health centres have falciparum malaria, the most common and deadly form of malaria in Burundi.

Last March, 14,490 people came to the seven health centres in this area for a consultation. 5,761 of them were diagnosed with malaria. The majority were treated with ACT's, Artemisinin Combination Therapy, the official first line treatment for simple malaria in Burundi.

Among those patients with malaria, 55% are under five. Eric is one of them. For the fifth time within these last two years, he has been diagnosed with malaria.
